Trace Lindquist –
I just wanted to give a quick little review on my recent Hotbodies Racing Bodywork experience. To give a little background (very little background) I had tried a race tail from them before years ago and without going into great detail I was very unpleased with it. Since I am a college student (therefore poor) I went with Hotbodies again.
So here we go.
I placed the order directly with Roger Davis (President at Hotbodies). He was very sympathetic to my previous situation and assured me this time through would be a great experience. Took my order which was a little custom since I’m running a 04-05 GSXR600 front end instead of stock. No questions asked, he just gave me what I needed.
When the bodywork arrived in the mail everything was in great shape. Packaging was done properly. No cracks or damage from shipping. A quick inspection of the finish was very surprising, in a good way. Primer was evenly sprayed everywhere. Like Sharkskinz, this is just a quick rough up and shoot to finish. So far we are doing great. Another nice thing I noticed is that this bodywork is stupidly light. If you are focused on having a light bike, this is a good way to lose a couple pounds (much lighter than Sharkskinz and Airtech stuff). It was also very flexible
Now fit, this is where everyone seems to have trouble with Hotbodies in the past. Front fender for the 04-05 GSXR 600/750 front end fit perfectly (rear of the fender is a bit close to the tire, may be extremely close with warmers). I drilled right in the dimples and it was a perfect match to the fork mounts. Same story with the tail section. Drilled in the dimples and everything lined up. The stock undertail can be retained and the fit with that is incredible. I was very pleased with this.
Heads up to guys running GSXR front end conversions, the one issue caused by me was the GSXR front end. I talked with Roger and he said the bodywork was designed for a stock bike, so it makes sense the bigger GSXR forks would take up more room in the narrow SV bodywork. So I ended up having to trim away a decent amount of material in the fork section of the upper. Took barely any time once I started using the pneumatic tools. Not going to be an issue for you supersport guys.
So would I buy Hotbodies again? Heck Yeah! The customer service was great (a big deal to me), quick shipping, light weight, great fit and finish, and a price that is super hard to beat. If you have tried it and were disappointed before, I strongly suggest you try them again now. Things have changed there for the better.
